Planning

How were schools chosen to be featured on this website?

This website does not include every school we are working on, but rather highlights a portion of the many on-going projects happening across the District. For more information on all the projects occurring at Stamford Public Schools, please visit the SPS Facilities page.

Which schools will be renovated?

The City is in Phase One of the Long-term Facilities Plan. The City has invested in $35 million in renovations across the District to be completed over the next several years. In addition to these renovations the City has received funding from the State of Connecticut to construct a new high school on the Westhill High School Campus and new K-8 building on the Roxbury Elementary School Campus. The existing buildings will remain occupied by students until the new buildings are completed. The City has also applied to the State for funding to construct a new Lower School (K-4) and Upper School (5-8) South of I-95

The South School will be built at Lockwood Avenue, and the new buildings will serve students from K.T. Murphy and Toquam Elementary School. Visit the New Buildings Section for more details.

What is the timeline for completion of long-term facilities plan?

The long-term plan has a twenty-year horizon (2021-2041).

How dedicated is the City in making sure the new schools and other projects get completed? Why now versus five, ten, or more years ago?

Under the Simmons Administration, the City succeeded in achieving a re-evaluation of State reimbursement increasing Stamford’s rate from less than 30% to 60%, and 80% in some cases. Long-term fiscal planning is key to the successful completion of the work.

How are projects prioritized?

Per the Master Planning Report prioritization takes into account current facility deficiencies, capacity, utilization and demographics.
