Julia A. Stark Elementary School Exterior and Interior Improvements

In 2023, Julia A. Stark received $289,142 for HVAC work as part of a competitive grant from the State of Connecticut. The City has contracted additional heating and ventilation improvements utilizing Federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Funds and American Rescue Plan (ARP) Funds for work starting and completing in the summer of 2024.

Building on prior investments in this historic neighborhood school, which opened in 1927, repairs to the exterior brick facade and new roofing with interior flooring and bathroom renovations are also planned. These projects will require educational specifications approved by the Board of Education and contracting with an architecture and engineering firm to supply documents and cost estimates before applying for State grant reimbursement in 2024. These projects anticipate grant funding authorization from the Connecticut State Legislature in 2025 and construction completion in 2027.

As a Stamford Public Schools parent for 21 years, including 15 years at Stark, our children have benefitted from world-class education and attended or are attending prestigious universities across the U.S. SPS teachers strive for excellence in preparing our youth for success, and Iā€™m excited that we now have a plan for our facilities to match that excellence.
