In collaboration with the Stamford Public Schools, the City of Stamford has secured a generous grant commitment from the State of Connecticut to build a two-school campus serving elementary and middle school students south of I-95.

The campus will include two schools located less than a mile apart: a K-4 facility at 83 Lockwood Avenue (the Lower New School) and a new 5-8 school at the current site of K.T. Murphy Elementary School on Horton Street (the Upper New School). Both schools are being designed in alignment with Educational Specifications to ensure they meet the needs of students, families, and the broader community. Gluck+ Architecture has been selected to lead the design of these new schools.

About the Lower New School

Supported by a generous State grant, the building at 83 Lockwood Avenue will be transformed into modern, future-ready learning environment for generations of young learners. The project is currently in Design Development, with construction expected to begin in 2027. The new school is scheduled to open for the 2029-2030 school year.

As a community school, the new K–4 facility will offer after‑hours access to its media center through a partnership with the Ferguson Library, expanding resources for students and families alike.

The capital improvements to Stamford’s public schools will provide students and teachers with modern and safe facilities that will enhance the learning experience for everyone. The Long-Term Facilities Plan will allow the school district to properly evolve its facilities to support each student as they go from kindergarten through 12th grade.
